The Hate Will Be Great

In order to have peace, in the world we must always seek friendship instead of hate.  This quilt is my response to the poem, Harvest of Hate by Mildred Raynolds Trivers of Muncie, Indiana.  The poem was written soon after the 1995 terrorist bombing in Oklahoma City in the United States.  It was difficult to make a soft and colorful quilt and then to put words of hate on the surface.

The Harvest of Hate

If the seed is sown in fertile ground

If the seed is broadcast with anger

If it is cultivated in bitterness

and fed with rage

the harvest will be great

We will reap broken bodies under broken bricks

We will garner blasted lives of children

We will see weapons of destruction

kill and wound and maim in the name of freedom

and the hate will be great
