After reading descriptions of the big flash of the atomic bomb, I wanted to create the impression of great light and total devastation.  I also wanted it to be beautiful.  An elderly friend saw me painting the colors on the cloth.  She said it was the prettiest thing I had ever made.  I never told her what I was painting.
