The traditional quilt blocks for this sampler quilt were chosen because their names indicate the variety of things in the lives of American women both in the past and present. One pattern is traditionally called "Pieced Ribbon" but I call it "Peace Ribbon."  The border squares are done in a carefully planned random design.
