Earth Reflections

1989

86" x 67"

Cotton cloth and beads, machine pieced, hand quilted, hand tied and embellished

When I started this I had no plan at all.  I had wanted to include oranges and yellows in a previous quilt but it had gotten too large.  Thus I began anew with these colors. As I sewed sections together it took on an unusual shape.  Beads appeared on the surface.  Embroidery emerged here and there.  As I worked on it my friends saw fire, earthquake, and a variety of other things.  To me now it represents the earth and what people do to it.  We all must think about the issues of preserving the earth.
